Fiance Visa

A K1 visa is a type of nonimmigrant visa that allows the fiancé(e) of a United States citizen to enter the United States for the purpose of getting married. The K1 visa is a single-entry visa, which means that the holder is allowed to enter the United States one time only. After the K1 visa holder enters the United States, they have 90 days to get married. If the marriage does not take place within 90 days, the K1 visa holder must leave the United States.

To be eligible for a K1 visa, the following conditions must be met:

  • The applicant must be engaged to be married to a United States citizen.

  • The applicant and their fiancé(e) must have met in person within the past two years.

  • The applicant and their fiancé(e) must be legally free to marry.

  • The applicant must be eligible to enter the United States under U.S. immigration law.

If the K1 visa holder gets married to their United States citizen fiancé(e) within 90 days of entering the United States, they can apply for a green card (lawful permanent residence) in the United States.
